WestBound Groove Band/Bio

WestBound Groove Band is one of Sacramento's Top Smooth/Urban/Contemporary Jazz Band.  Formed in 2009 by Tony Elder,  the band has created original music and remakes of popular R&B, Smooth, Urban and Contemporary Jazz Standards adding  their own unique jazzy twist to the music. Creative and Soulful, featuring Ray Iaea (Bio) on Sax,  Tony Elder (Bio) on Guitar, Ken Berger (Bio) on Keys, Kevin Cain (Bio) on Bass, and Brandon Harris on Drums. WestBound Groove  has played throughout the Sacramento Region for years including Cal Expo State Fair,  The Smooth Jazz Sunset Cruise, The Jazz In The Mix Summer Wine Fest and The Jazz Winter Celebration,  The National Coalition of 100 Black Women and Southern University Alumni to name a few.  Voted Best Jazz Band of Year for Northern California Entertainment Music Awards 2015 and again nominated for 2016.

Guitarist Elder and his troupe's brand of jazz is tuneful, easygoing, thoroughly aiming to please, which makes it perfect background music for an event where life is sweet and sunny, with zero chance of rain. "Sunday Brunch" is a pleasant tune on which Elder shows himself to be a solid, precise musician whose restraint matches the music.  Horns are a welcome addition to "Serenity," especially the song's sax solo.  Elder adds some spicy, tropical flair (and nice flute parts) to his formula with "Senorita Bahama Mama," which, with the help of its backup vocalist, achieves the kind of carefree sensuality you'd associate with a Caribbean cruise.  Familiar stuff, well recorded, efficiently performed.........
